Spotlight Artist:

Sarah Cheney Willoughby (1841-1913), originally from Massachusetts, came to the Northwest as a “Mercer Girl” hired to teach art in Seattle. Finding that she had been reassigned to the music department, she moved to Port Townsend in 1862 and began teaching here.

Living in the "wilds" of the peninsula, Sarah produced many drawings. Eleven of these drawings now occupy a case in the Northwest Room of the University of Washington Library.

The Port Townsend Virtual Art Museum is launched with support from the Port Townsend Arts Commission. The mission of VAM is to provide a tour of the rich tradition of the arts in the city.
